Some celebrations are built for scale. Others are built for the people in the room. Farwa and Asad’s Walima at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal in Princeton, New Jersey, was the second kind. An intimate gathering of family and close friends, intentional in every detail, and exactly the right size for what it was meant to be.
The Walima is a celebration that follows the wedding. It brings two families together formally and marks the union publicly. For Farwa and Asad, that celebration took shape at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal. Timeless Creations by Afshan set the tone immediately with baby blues and soft pinks throughout. That palette gave the room warmth and ease that suited the occasion perfectly. From the moment we arrived, the space felt considered and personal.

ToggleThe Princeton Marriott at Forrestal offers more photographically than most people expect. Beyond the ballroom, the grounds include wooded paths, open lawns, and architectural details that give portrait sessions real range. For Farwa and Asad, we stepped outside before the reception and made our way through one of the secluded paths on the property. Away from everything else, just the two of them, the energy shifted.
The wooded path gave the photographs a quiet, natural quality — unhurried and easy. Farwa and Asad were comfortable in that space. They genuinely enjoyed the time away from the formality of the evening ahead. Those portraits rank among my favorites from the day. A reception room, however beautiful, can’t quite hold what that path did for them.

The details at a South Asian Walima tell their own story. Before the room fills, there’s time to document what Timeless Creations by Afshan built — the stage, the florals, the table settings, and the soft color palette running through everything. Baby blues and pinks worked across the space without feeling heavy. Romantic, but not overdone.
Photographing details before guests arrive is always intentional on my end. The room holds a stillness in those early minutes that disappears quickly. At the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal, that stillness had real presence. A beautifully dressed space, waiting for the people it was built for. Every element reflected the care that went into the evening.

The Walima was exactly what it was meant to be — short, warm, and focused entirely on the people in the room. Traditional in structure, with no dancing, the evening centered on family, food, and the quiet significance of two families coming together. That kind of celebration carries its own weight, and the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal held it well.
Farwa and Asad moved through the evening with ease. The intimacy of the guest list gave the space a warmth that larger receptions sometimes lose. By the time the evening wound down, it was clear that nothing had been incidental. The venue, the decor, the guest list — all of it reflected intention. And the photographs reflect exactly that.

This celebration came together with the care of an exceptional vendor team:
Intimate celebrations like this one are some of my most meaningful work. When a guest list stays close, and every detail reflects intention, the photographs show it. The Princeton Marriott at Forrestal works well for a South Asian wedding or reception in New Jersey — versatile spaces, grounds that photograph beautifully, and staff who know how to hold an event of any size.
